Ground Up Waypoint Conversations Podcast
What are you building your life on? In this month's episode of Waypoint Conversations, Jo and Dan look back through Waypoint's four-part series, Ground Up, taking each week and continuing the conversation. Throughout the series, we've been exploring Jesus' teaching in Matthew 7:24β29 and what it really means to build our lives on a foundation that lasts. Together, Jo and Dan revisit each week of the series, going deeper into the conversations and exploring how Jesus' words challenge the way we live. From Don't Just Hear It, where we explored why listening to Jesus isn't enough without putting His words into practice, to Solid Ground, where we looked at what it means to build our lives on Jesus and stand firm when the storms of life come. We also revisit Shaky Ground, exploring the things we so easily put our trust in and what happens when the foundations we've built our lives upon begin to shake. And finally, The Voice You Trust, where we explore the different voices competing for our attention and what it means to recognise and respond to the authority of Jesus. Along the way, Jo and Dan explore some of the challenges of putting our faith into practice, the things that can distract us from Jesus, and what it really looks like to trust Him when life doesn't go the way we expect. It's a relaxed and honest conversation about faith, the foundations we build our lives upon, and what it means to not just hear the words of Jesus but actually live them out. Because the question isn't simply whether we're building something with our lives. It's what we're building our lives on. ποΈ Waypoint Conversations β picking up the conversation and going deeper. π Connect β https://www.waypointchurch.co.uk/connect π Website β https://www.waypointchurch.co.uk π§ Email β info@waypointchurch.co.uk π± FOLLOW WAYPOINT CHURCH πΈ Instagram: @waypointchurchhull https://www.instagram.com/waypointchurchhull π Facebook: Waypoint Church Hull https://www.facebook.com/share/19GbSb Waypoint Church β Helping people find and follow Jesus.

The Voice You Trust Week 4 Talk β Ground Up | Dan Kelsey
WHO ARE YOU REALLY LISTENING TO? There are so many voices competing for our attention. But which voice are we allowing to shape the way we live? In Week 4 of our series, Ground Up, Dan Kelsey brings our series to a close as we explore what it means to recognise, trust and respond to the authority of Jesus. Looking at Matthew 7:28β29, we see how the crowds were amazed by Jesus' teaching because He taught with an authority unlike anything they had experienced before. But what does that authority mean for us today? Every day, we're surrounded by different voices. The opinions of others, the expectations of society, our own thoughts and the pressures of everyday life can all influence the decisions we make. So how do we know which voice to trust? Throughout this talk, Dan explores what it means to recognise Jesus as the ultimate authority in our lives and why following Him involves more than simply listening to what He says. Looking at the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in Daniel 3:16β18, we're reminded of three men who faced enormous pressure to compromise their faith. Even when their circumstances were uncertain, they chose to remain faithful to God. Their story challenges us to consider where our trust really lies, particularly when following Jesus isn't the easiest or most popular choice. In Matthew 16:24, Jesus challenges those who want to follow Him to deny themselves, take up their cross and follow Him. Following Jesus isn't always about choosing the easiest path. Sometimes it means surrendering our own plans, putting aside what others expect of us and choosing to trust His direction instead. Because building our lives on Jesus isn't simply about knowing what He teaches. It's about trusting Him enough to put His words into practice. As we finish our Ground Up series, we're reminded that the foundation we build our lives upon matters. The storms of life will come. Challenges will arise. Different voices will compete for our attention. But when Jesus is our foundation, we have someone we can trust through it all. So, whose voice are you trusting to guide your life? Whether you've followed Jesus for years, you're exploring faith, asking questions, or you're simply wondering who Jesus really is, this talk is an invitation to consider whose voice you're listening to and what it means to build your life on Jesus. π BIBLE PASSAGES Matthew 7:28β29 Daniel 3:16β18 Romans 13:1 Matthew 16:24 π€ SPEAKER Dan Kelsey β Church Lead πΊ SERIES Ground Up β Week 4: The Voice You Trust π΅ TAKE A MOMENT TO RESPOND This talk was originally part of our full Waypoint Church Online gathering. Shaky Ground Week 3 Talk β Ground Up | Jo Prest
SHAKY GROUND. WHAT ARE YOU BUILDING YOUR LIFE ON? What are we trusting to carry the weight of our lives? In Week 3 of our series, Ground Up, Jo Prest explores what happens when we build our lives on foundations that cannot stand when the storms of life come. Looking at Matthew 7:26β27, Jesus tells the story of a foolish builder who built his house on sand. When the rain came, the waters rose and the winds blew, the house fell because the foundation it had been built on could not hold. Jo explores the things we can so easily put our trust in, the foundations we build our lives upon, and why hearing Jesus' words without putting them into practice can leave us standing on shaky ground. Referencing the familiar childhood toys Weebles, known for wobbling but not falling down, Jo helps us think about what happens when life knocks us off balance and what it really means to have a foundation that will last. Life doesn't always go the way we expect. Difficult circumstances, uncertainty and challenges can leave us feeling shaken, and the things we thought were secure can suddenly feel unstable. But could we be a bit like a Weeble? Life might knock us, shake us and leave us wobbling, but what would it take for us to keep standing? Jesus reminds us that it's not simply about hearing His words, but putting them into practice and building our lives on a foundation that can withstand the storms. Whether you've followed Jesus for years, you're exploring faith, asking questions, or you're simply wondering who Jesus really is, this talk is an invitation to consider what you're putting your trust in and whether the foundation you're building your life on will last. π BIBLE PASSAGES Matthew 7:26β27 π€ SPEAKER Jo Prest β Core Team πΊ SERIES Ground Up β Week 3: Shaky Ground π΅ TAKE A MOMENT TO RESPOND This talk was originally part of our full Waypoint Church Online gathering. Solid Ground Week 2 Talk β Ground Up | Dan Kelsey
Solid Ground Week 2 Talk β Ground Up | Dan Kelsey SOLID GROUND. BUILD YOUR LIFE ON JESUS. What are you building your life on? In Week 2 of our series, Ground Up, Dan Kelsey explores what it means to build our lives on Jesus and why He is the firm foundation we can trust, even when life gets difficult. Looking at Matthew 7:24β25, Jesus tells the story of a wise builder who built his house on the rock. When the rain came, the waters rose and the winds blew, the house stood firm because of the foundation it had been built on. Using a simple illustration with Jenga, Dan explores why the foundation matters and how easily things can become unstable when we're building on something that isn't solid. We also look at Isaiah 40:8 and the reminder that while the world around us is constantly changing, God's Word endures forever. Because following Jesus doesn't mean that life's storms won't come. Difficult circumstances, uncertainty and challenges are still part of life. But when we build our lives on Jesus, we have a foundation that remains secure through them all. Whether you've followed Jesus for years, you're exploring faith, asking questions, or you're simply wondering who Jesus really is, this talk is an invitation to consider what you're building your life on and what it means to put your trust in a God who never changes. π BIBLE PASSAGES Matthew 7:24β25 Isaiah 40:8 π€ SPEAKER Dan Kelsey β Church Lead, Waypoint Church πΊ SERIES Ground Up β Week 2: Solid Ground π΅ TAKE A MOMENT TO RESPOND This talk was originally part of our full Waypoint Church Online gathering. Donβt Just Hear It Week 1 Talk β Ground Up | Dan Kelsey
DONβT JUST HEAR IT. PUT IT INTO PRACTICE. What does it actually look like to build your life on the words of Jesus? In Week 1 of our new series, Ground Up, Dan Kelsey explores Jesusβ words at the end of the Sermon on the Mount and the difference between simply hearing what Jesus says and actually putting it into practice. Looking at Matthew 7, Jesus describes a wise person as someone who hears His words and puts them into practice, like someone building a house on solid rock. Because following Jesus isnβt just about what we know, what we hear on a Sunday, or how much of the Bible we can quote. Itβs about allowing what Jesus says to shape the way we actually live. Whether youβve followed Jesus for years, youβre exploring faith, asking questions, or youβre simply wondering who Jesus really is, this talk is an invitation to begin building your life from the ground up, with Jesus as the foundation. π BIBLE PASSAGE Matthew 7:24 π€ SPEAKER Dan Kelsey β Church Lead, Waypoint Church πΊ SERIES Ground Up β Week 1: Donβt Just Hear It π΅ TAKE A MOMENT TO RESPOND This talk was originally part of our full Waypoint Church Online gathering. Waypoint Culture Week 4 Talk β The Culture of Church | Dan Kelsey
HELPING PEOPLE FIND AND FOLLOW JESUS. What does it mean to be Waypoint Church, and why do we exist? In the final week of The Culture of Church, Dan Kelsey explores Waypoint Culture, who we are, our heart, our vision and why we exist. At the centre of Waypoint is a simple heart: Helping people find and follow Jesus and begin the journey with Him. Dan shares some of his own story of knowing about God but not knowing Him personally, and how the things he thought would bring fulfilment ultimately left him searching for something more. Looking at Luke 19 and Matthew 28, we explore the heart of Jesus for people and His call to make disciples. We also unpack the meaning behind the name Waypoint, a marker along a journey that helps guide, re-centre and point you in the right direction. Whether you've followed Jesus for years, you're exploring faith, asking questions, or you're simply wondering who Jesus really is, this talk is an invitation to discover the hope found in Him and begin the journey. π BIBLE PASSAGES Luke 19:10 Matthew 28:19β20 π€ SPEAKER Dan Kelsey β Church Lead, Waypoint Church πΊ SERIES The Culture of Church β Week 4: Waypoint Culture π΅ TAKE A MOMENT TO RESPOND This talk was originally part of our full Waypoint Church Online gathering. WORSHIP STARTS WITH THE HEART. What does it really mean to worship God, beyond the songs we sing and the moments we gather together? In Week 3 of The Culture of Church, Ben McKay explores The Culture of Worship and why worship is about much more than music, style or what happens on a Sunday. Returning to Jesusβ encounter with the woman at the well in John 4, we look deeper at Jesusβ words about worshipping the Father in Spirit and in truth.
